this is for me to look back on in a month or so.

my rangers wishlist this winter includes:

kosuke fukudome - his last name isn't pronounced as it looks fortunately. hopefully aki otsuka as a teammate and the warm weather in texas (i read he doesn't want to play in the cold north) will be a draw for this guy. if he could move to center field that would be ideal so the rangers could fully utilize his speed and golden glove (they add the 'en' in japan) ability. i'm certain his home run production will decrease dramatically with every mile he gets farther from japan but he could easily carry a solid batting average and on-base percentage. he also won't cost you a draft pick like all of those other already major leaguers. personal note to fuki: the rangers have uniform number one waiting for you! just don't expect them to put a roof on the ballpark and name it after you...

hiroki kuroda - he's another japanese player looking to move to the majors. a former league era champion (2006) currently in his prime (32, perfect for a starting pitcher) he's probably not going to destroy anyone in north america but should make a solid number two or three starter. if millwood and padilla look anything like they did in 2007 a guy like kuroda could be the staff ace though. he too wouldn't cost a draft pick and (though i'm not certain on the proper pronunciation) when i say his name it rhymes with yoda.

torii hunter - this is my second option with fukudome goes elsewhere. i'm less interested in torri but the organization seems more interested. sure he'll be great defensively but is he really the guy you want batting clean-up? with his projected contract that's about where you'll have to put him. on a sidenote he does live north of the dallas-area.

kerry wood - take a risk, a la eric gagne or sammy sosa on this guy. put him in the bullpen. we could make a clause in his contract to pay him a little less and have his parents pick him up from the park since they live in the metroplex. heck, move him back into his parents house. save on rent! also if he gets injured again (highly likely!) his mom could take care of him and feed him soup. i could come over and we could play mlb power pros on wii. we could create ourselves in the game and make us much better in the game than we are in real-life! okay, i'm getting carried away. i really would like to see the rangers take a chance here.

a random first baseman via trade. i hear that mike lamb wants to come to arlington and play first and some third. really? does he really want do? how (un)exciting. how about convert jason botts (all six foot eleventy-seventy of him) from designated hitter/left field to first base? i still don't see him as being much of a corner outfield although he does look sort of like a clumsier eric byrnes on stilts. there've been whispers of a padilla for richie sexson (tallest position player in mlb history) trade. both were terrible and injured last season but i'm not too keen on making this trade - not starting pitching for a basketball player, sorry.

[ music | rangers v. yankees ]

since 2004 every month of may cartoon network has released a season of 'samurai jack' on the dvd format. this may although - no jack, so there's a little hole this month were that samurai normally holes up for awhile. the official release date is 28 august this year for the fourth/final season of the program. last fall a rumor surfaced that a feature length film will be made, completing the story, but i've yet to see any proof of this actually going into production. if any of you superspies out there see anything, aaaaanything, alert your local me.

also if anyone sees anything related to a confirmed drop date and setlist for the 'guitar hero: rock the 80s' game (or whatever it's supposed to be called) contact the guy i mentioned above. expect a prize if you're first.

related note:
here's my initial vision for a 'guitar hero: gone underground'.

flaming groovies - shake some action
the cars - just what i needed
elvis costello - (i don't want to go to) chelsea
the scruffs - break the ice
sugar - helpless
(internationl) noise conspiracy - capitalism stole my virginity
mogwai - glasgow mega-snake
lou reed - waves of fear
xtc - making plans for nigel
pavement - summer baby
pixies - monkey gone to heaven
brian jonestown massacre - who?
wilco - i'm the man who loves you
the jam - going underground
guided by voices - i am a tree
the feelies - loveless love
sonic youth - silver rocket
blur - charmless man
blue cheer - babylon
love - a house is not a motel
dinosaur jr. - feel the pain
hum - stars
yo la tengo - sugarcube
dismemberment plan - gyroscope
weezer - say it ain't so
built to spill - you were right
at the drive-in - pattern against user/one armed scissor (back-to-back)
brian eno - king's lead hat
karate - sever
ted leo/pharmacists - timorous me
radiohead - paranoid android
neil young/crazy horse - down by the river
television - marquee moon
king crimson - 21st century schzoid man
frank zappa - son of mr. green genes
funkadelic - maggot brain

good riffs, good solos, good songs. the last handful would devour all in their paths.

[ music | elvis costello "night rally". ]

after work this evening i went grocery shopping. afterwards i made the mistake of making a pot of coffee and drinking all four cups. the initial cup didn't even get inside of me until after one am. so, look at the time and figure it out. luckily tuesday's my first day off in a week. but yes, we might actually get stupider as we age. we also get smarter as so many other parts of my current life would show. it's an even balance that, despite my training and skill, i can't properly translate into words.

if you've noticed, the stories dried up. no time-traveling, robots, semi-heroes, things that only happen in my head, etc. the stories drying up is reaganese for "i'm happy" and/or "i'm busy". some reasons why:

-midnight movies (yeah, i've been running those things for almost two years now!) that include "putting the lotion in the basket" (for _silence of the lambs_), wind-up robot races (for _2001_) and playing karate champ on the nintendo entertainment system (for _enter the dragon_).
-guitar heroeing - since my actual guitaring has suffered over these post-retirement years video game guitaring has become the new black.
-blood barf.
-baseball season - i've been following baseball again for the past few years. it's not as if i'm following american football or nascar. i'd make a steep analogy about how enjoying baseball is like having a vice along the lines of imported tea and biscuits whereas the nfl is to binge drinking - but you know, i said i'm growing up so i wasn't even thinking about such comparisons.
-i own an ipod (seriously). this means i now actually buy music in the cd format again. in another related case of "what tha?!" i've purchased more new clothes than used clothes in the last year or so. hey, stop making fun of me. i have your email address.
-ted leo.
-i'm too busy running through woods at white rock lake as a sweaty akira kurosawa photographs me.
-i've started reading comic books (at my age?!).
-i watched _children of men_ six times.
-i'm learning my lines.
-charlotte.

i'm sure the stories are still in there but i haven't the time to wring them out. for now. maybe i should drink so more coffee so i can watch the ranger game in seven hours.

20 december 2007. [20 Dec 2006|10:18pm]
these days i've been sitting on a number of panels, pandering at a many of symposiums, trying to dismantle the notion that a popular version of acquirable quantum mechanics can hammer an object through space, time, etc. into a alternate space, time, etc. within the current known dimension which derives from the latin word dimensio which for all i know is ancient martian for dementia. this dismantling notation comes to much of my own notable dismay as this belief is the largest part of the largest piece of what i've been doing for oh, eleven years now. this is my paved path to pathos - a heliolithic to hell and back with as many trips to the clothes hamper as trips to the dictionary.

i'll start with a ham-fisted, "in this hand i've held the future", and with an equally ham-handed, "in this one i've touched the ancient past", and with a scripted choke-hold, "but on this other hand i've read scientific literature..." dot dot dot. when i say that you're to fill in the back-story. i told you this was going to be interactive!

i was told that this was going to be a cruddy year for film by you folks living in the future but i'm going to prove you all wrong:

0) the fountain.
1) the prestige.
2) children of men.
3) the proposition.
4) the departed.
5) a scanner darkly.
6) qian li zou dan qi (riding alone for thousands of miles).

biggest let down: science of sleep. it should have been re-titled _the retarded_.

aidan: factoid - something like ninety percent of this country's wealth is controlled by five percent of the population. don't you think that the same goes for the intelligence in america?
thor: what? that ninety percent of the intelligence is used by five percent of the people?
aidan: yeah, essentially. about twenty-two percent of the population controlled the last presidential election.
thor: how much of those people fit into that initial five percent? all excluding wealthy artists?
aidan: do you consider movie stars artists?
thor: a lot of them. maybe not the schwartzenator or dennis miller though.
aidan: i think we're discovering that pigeon-holing and ass-holing are hand in hand.
thor: but neither pigeons nor assholes have hands.
aidan: but puppets do.
thor: but anyway, i don't think the intelligent five percent play popular country music. or pro sports.
aidan: how do you think lou reed voted?
thor: funny you mention that. rumor has it that every election since reagan/carter has yielded one write-in vote for lou reed cast in new york.
aidan: so lou reed voted for lou reed? that's more proof the lou reed hates reagan.

dear internets,

no, i do not want parts and plans to convert my current robot into a 53X-BOT so take your 5P4M and shove it!

on an unrelated note i'm stuck on a deserted island full of hungry beastly animals with a pack of also hungry vegans in what seems to be an evil plot to take the lives of these dietary outcasts. it has been titled project: vegan meat-up. the humans answered message board requests for english-speaking vegans looking for a new exciting communal life on an uninhabited small island. these people were dubbed neo-hippies by the press and corporate sponsors included damn baby you smell! bath soap, kentucky fried mittens family eateries, organicpets.com, the cleveland indians baseball club, dinosaur-safeĀ® petrol co. and there's a hole in my donut! donut chain. it's my job, as you may have guessed, to help save these people from the animals, themselves, nature and starvation.

getting a new car insurance policy in the future is as easy as stealing people's indentities (in the future)!

edit: this has nothing to do with indenting and more to do with identifying. i need an editor.

time trap - 06 september 1979. [06 Sep 2006|10:57pm]
i met this guy yesterday (yesterday to me anyway) and he passionately exclaimed that i was the chosen one. i then explained to him that i was far too old to be trained and i knew he hadn't a clue what i was talking about. heck, he won't even know that i'm luke's father for several months.

i really don't believe i'm anakin skywalker/darth vader nor do i expect to bring balance to the force. nor do i know why i'm in 1979 yet. but i hope it has something to do with ronald reagan and the nearing election. my childhood would've been much easier had he never been president of the colonies.

time trap - 05 september 1995. [05 Sep 2006|03:09pm]
i should let you all know that i've been time-traveling constantly lately. i've started to develop nose bleeds and i believe being sucked through time at astrononmical speed_distances is the cause. or maybe the further stresses that accompany time-travel. or all the hot chicks that are totally into me that i meet at every stop. then again i'm not sure of the connections between hot chicks and nose bleeds but maybe nose bleeds are an ancient form of sexually-transmitted diseases. one can only hope that is the maximum severity of sleeping around all over time. but seriously it's not about the good time love-making - time-travel is about adventure, history, mystery, action, drama, comedy, foreign and all of the other film and literary genres that exist that i enjoy.

easily the most bizarre part about all of this is that i've yet to meet anyone of you people yet, but i know you all very well. this is something i've been struggling with during my travels. along with my age. i've certainly been aging when living in alternate times so how will this alter my time on earth? am i cheating death during the voyage (which i need to discuss further) or am i having life sucked out of me like a chain of cigarettes?

going from time a to time b isn't as instantenous and soothing as one would hope. describing this more would be divulging trade secrets, but understand it takes time to travel through time and it hurts like heartache, stomach ache, basketball practice and slamming your entire body in a doorway. but also to describe these adventures as simply as possible - it's awesome to the max.

i miss you all!

love,
reagan.
